Volunteer With Us

West Suburban Homeschool Nature Group (WSHNG) is 100% volunteer-run. Everything you see—our hikes, clubs, co-ops, field trips, events, and communication—exists because parents and community members step up to help make it happen.

As we continue to grow, we are always looking for helping hands in both big and small ways. Whether you have a lot of time or just a little, there is a place for you here.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering with WSHNG is a great way to:

• Stay connected with your community

• Support meaningful outdoor and educational experiences for kids

• Share your skills (or learn new ones)

• Help lighten the load so our programs can continue growing sustainably

No experience is required for most roles—just willingness and reliability.

Current Volunteer Needs

We are actively looking for help in the following areas:

🌿 Program & Event Support

Help bring our events to life by assisting with planning and coordination:

• Event coordination

• Nature hikes and club day support

• Co-op assistance (planning, setup, check-in, cleanup)

• Event day volunteers (attendance tracking, welcoming families, etc.)

📣 Communications & Social Media

Help keep families informed and engaged:

• Posting events and reminders to Facebook

• Creating simple event graphics or announcements (we have Canva access!)

• Managing group communications

• Helping maintain consistent messaging across platforms

📅 Calendar & Organization Support

Help keep our community organized and up to date:

• Logging events into Google Calendar

• Ensuring Facebook events match website listings

• Updating event details as needed

• Tracking registration or attendance lists

💻 Website & Admin Support

Help keep our digital systems accurate and helpful:

• Proofreading and organizing semester content

• Light formatting or content cleanup for consistency

📊 Behind-the-Scenes Admin Tasks

These small but important tasks help everything run smoothly:

• Maintaining event checklists

• Bringing necessary supplies to events

• Helping track attendance at events

Flexible Time Commitment

We know life is busy. Many of our volunteer roles are flexible and can be done:

• From home

• On your own schedule

• In small, manageable tasks

Even 30 minutes a week can make a meaningful difference.
