🌿 Homeschooling in Illinois & How WSHNG Supports Your Journey 🌿

Illinois is one of the most homeschool-friendly states in the U.S. Families are not required to register with the state or submit educational plans, but homeschoolers must provide an education that is “equivalent” to public schooling, covering the following subjects: language arts, math, biological and physical sciences, social sciences, fine arts, and physical development/health.

At West Suburban Homeschool Nature Group (WSHNG), we help families meet many of these educational goals through regular, community-based enrichment:

🌿  Biological & Physical Sciences  🌿

Our twice-weekly nature meetups offer hands-on science learning through guided hikes, wildlife studies, and ecosystem exploration.

🎨  Fine Arts  🎨

We incorporate crafts, visual arts, and creative expression in both our weekly activities and semester-long projects.

📖  Language Arts  📖

Older students engage in reading, discussion, and written components during our nature journaling and tween/teen semester project and other enrichment opportunities.

🌍  Social Sciences  🌍

Our themed projects often explore community, history, environmental studies, and interdependence.

🏃‍♀️  Physical Development  🏃‍♀️

Every meetup includes time for physical movement, from nature hikes to unstructured outdoor play.

When combined with at-home math instruction, regular participation in WSHNG helps families meet or exceed Illinois' homeschool subject requirements in a rich, community-centered environment.

WSHNG provides both academic and social enrichment in a supportive, inclusive environment—helping homeschool families in Illinois meet educational goals while building lasting friendships.
